THE STORY OF ATALUKU ROI DAVID
« Thread Started on May 7, 2012, 7:13pm »

His real name is Kovo Ngasabidi.

He reveals quite a lot of surprises,it's a long interview am sure the likes of archos will correct me where am wrong and help us to translate and summarize however i picked quite a few interesting comments from Roi David. He said before he went to Werra's band,he was part of the first musicians that assisted Alain Mpela to form Generation A and if i heard right then he said they got their instruments from Koffi Olomide. He adds by saying the likes of Miel De Son, and Mirage Supersonic found him at Alain Mpela's Generation A.

Roi David later in the interview says he was also accepted by JB Mpiana at Wenge BCBG where he was introduced by Genta Lisimo whom he did some rap work with in their hood infact he cites some examples of Genta's rap in bcbg songs which were originally his(Roi David) He also remembers that BCBG's Cellulaire almost stopped him from going on stage and seeing JB but Genta recognised him and went and told B and that's when he was added on the list and Kaludji called him on stage

Roi David also shares some light moments by revealing that he also did a brief audition with King Kester, instead of Kester asking to do freestyle,he was asked to do a particular dance and then Kester said ''wait here i'll be back'' and he never came back so Roi David moved on to other bands.

He also says he found it tough to go through the kulunas who man the gates at Werra's Zamba Playa,he said the first time he attempted and they asked him to demonstrate his work, they all burst out laughing leaving him in tears so he left but his friend asked him to try again so he went and did better. Roi David also remembers the first time he went on stage at Zamba and before he could utter a word everyone just started laughing including guitarist Thierry Mogratana ,he finally did his audition and the fans just went wild,Werra stopped the audition and asked the fans if they approved, the fans and Werra confirmed him right there and it was at was at that point that Werra asked for his stage name, several names were suggested by fans and other musicians of the band but it was Heritier Watanabe's suggestion which carried the day so he confirm that Heritier gave him the name Roi David.
Roi David also says he found the likes of Brigade ,Kenekene and Goldberg at Maison Mere so he got the opportunity to feature on a record earlier than them. ;D
For those who don't know Goldberg, here is the young man,an excellent ataluku http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6cn98_pour-ou-contre-golberg-dans-maison_music

He never featured on any of Werra's reordings and we don't know where he is now.

I will listen one more time and try to translate some more interesting bits in the long interview.

Goldberg a great animateur ?? ;D ;D ;D
Werrason sent him to Operation Dragin after 3 months. And he was nothing, when he joined Quartier Latin with Brigade (end 2004).

Maybe i should clarify by saying he sounds good,he's like BCBG's Cellulaire, perfect voice but not able to create much, maybe that's why he was sent to Operation Dragon.
Is it him on Ben Nyamabo's generique Ratissage

on his life, roi david said his real name is kovo ngasanbidi, he is the youngest of the 6 children his parents had( 2 men and 4 girls)
he is from the village/small city of idiofa and is related to miel de son of maison mere
he stopped going to school quite early but nevetheless speaks and writes french correctly
he was basically a dancer until he listened to atalaku tutu calugi, who then became his idol and made him want to be atalaku aswell
he started playing in street groups and then his parents died and his elder brother died later on, so he decided despite his very young age at that time (14 years old) to take his responsabilities
and walked for 2 days until he arrived in another small willage closer to kinshasa then he went in a group nicknamed wenge musica and he met defao matumona who went there for a concert but he told defao to ask to his family before recruiting him as he was a kid
but defao never showed up again so he decided with somebody he met in that village to go to kinshasa, and as he had no money on him he gave a rickshaw driver some of his food and that driver helped him arrive at his older sister's house
his older sister was living in kinshasa with her boyfriend but after one week there he had conflicts with her due to coming very late at home when he went out so he left and went to live in the streets while looking for a group and then he arrived in a group where he met atalaku apocalypse
after that,he went in another small group and then he tried his luck with blaise bula when blaise was creating ponderation 8 after leaving bcbg
he impressed blaise with a animation about a horse( like mpunda much later) but he was unsettled by ponderation 8 musicians, who gave him the job of keeping their clothes when they had to wear scene clothes insted of going of stage with them
few times after, he left blaise bula to go to a street group where he once again impressed but he was eager to impress at a bigger stage so he left and he went to his family house in another quarter of kinshasa and then he went on the streets again and he met bodyguards of a former minister who introduced him to their boss
and he started living there and he met king kester and the bodyguards told him to come and do his animation in front of kester, which he did and also dance " tshaku libondance"
kester then promised to come and get him the day after but never came
then he went to alain mpela's group before the likes of mirage arrived, and he said its koffi who was giving instruments to mpela(which is a sign of jb-koffi rivalry i mentioned in previous topic)
he left mpela after three weeks and went to a traditional music group he quickly left after the group abandoned their project of europe tour
then he met atalaku gentamycine who he worked with every day for long hours and then genta introduced him to jb mpiana, but atalaku cellulaire seemed unhappy to see a potential contender coming so he tried to avoid him getting on stage
roi david finally had a succesful test and fans even gave him a lot of money (he also said genta and cellulaire used three of his calls which they modified)
but he felt he was not getting his chance so he left and went to marie paul's band el paris where he did not last and went to try his luck in maison mere when bill clinton and co left
him and his cousin then met and prayed together before he went to la zamba
when he arrived at la zamba,he was mocked by la zamba bodyguards( there is a insert image then when one of the bodyguards say werra agreed with the way they bullied the guys applying for a test when "ungrateful" bill, ferre and co left)
he then tried a call which cellulaire used on anti terro and he was booed and mocked, and a guy told him " why don't you look for something else than music?"
he went home but came back to la zamba to try his luck again on the same day and then the shegue lifted him and threw him to the floor and he then he fell on the floor on his forehead
nevertheless,he insisted once again to be accepted in la zamba
then elliot mondobe came outside la zamba and listened to him and was so impressed that he let him go in la zamba
then a bodyguard came in and tried to kick him out but he fled and arrived close to the podium were atalakus were tested and he impressed once again and he was told to come the day after
when he came the day after, he was rejected by the bodyguards, and he paid to get in but found it very hard
(sly got the rest right, the part with mogratana)
after impressing werra and maison mere musicians, he was given the nickname roi david by heritier watanabe,in reference to david and goliath and this even led to a serie of concerts named david vs goliath with roi david as david and bill clinton kalonji as goliath
and then roi david explained that he was first abandoned in kinshasa and his friend kene kene brought to europe ,and then he arrived with the group on the second tour they had since he arrived in the group and then it was the start of a huge success
he then mad two other tours with maison mere and stayed in europe due to a huge problem he had
in fact, he was offered huge amount of money by fans but his "girlfriend" fled one day with all that money after they slept together
so he was too shattered to think about music, let alone thinking about going back to kinshasa without money to support his family, and it took him time to recover from that

Thanx a lot archos. Wow, I am quite impressed with my level of understanding of lingala,i can say i heard about 90% of what Roi David was saying and i laughed when he said he was dropped to the ground by a shegue at Zamba. ;D ;D

He really found it hard to start his career but i wish he had stayed more at home,he was too quick to go to Europe.
