As there are not many concerts taking place it was nice that there was one not that far away in Antwerp which also started early, and what a concert it was. It took place in a cultural centre not far from the centre of town and also very easy to reach (the busstop was almost in front of it). The hall was not too big but what was good was that there were seats like in a theatre so everyone had a good view of the stage. About 200 people had turned up, among them about 20 Africans, not many. We were not the only people from Holland because we heard several people speak Dutch, in Belgium Dutch is also spoken but their accent is completely different from ours and it is also called Flemish.

The band started around 20.30 and played for an hour or so then taking a short break and then played for another hour. They started with an instrumental followed by a Wendo Kolosoy song and then a song which had a fantastic rhythm but unfortunately I do not know the title of the song. The bandmembers were mostly former TPOK Jazz members and others had played with Zaiko, singer Malage being the only one who had been a member of both bands. The sound was very very good, every instrument was clearly audible it was a joy to listen to. Among the songs being played were Oh Miguel with Malage singing the lead vocal and what also stood out was the fantastic part played by the two saxes and trumpettes. Singer Yannick Koy sang Pesa position and Nana sang Africa Mokili Mobimba. What I liked most of all were the long sebenes without any screaming to spoil them. Both Dizzy and Tom’s played solo, Tom’s taking care of the Zaiko like sebenes. After two hours they stopped, leaving a happy and content public.

Great pictures Ronald! I find it funny and ironic that Dizzy is beginning to look like Le Grand Maitre himself.

They ARE great pictures! Thanks so much for sharing them, Ronald.
Djo Mali... wow. I almost did not recognize him. But there he is, left-handed and everything.
And Nana looks beautiful!

Thanks for the pictures, Ronald. Looks like it was a excellent concert, Dizzy is one of my favorite rhumba soloists and has a unique style to his playing and Djo Mali didn't recognize him with the dreads, awesome bass he is.
